Mondrian Lesson Bundle

This bundle celebrates Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian (1872-1944).

This bundle celebrates Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). Mondrian was a pioneer of the style known as Destijl. Although this word in English means "style", it's helpful to remember that Mondrian's Destijl art does what it sounds like in English: it distills art to its most elemental forms. With basic lines, geometric forms and the primary colors, Mondrian teaches us to appreciate the simple elegance of minimalism.

This Lesson Bundle features Beginner and Advanced versions of the Notecard Project perfect for all ages plus a Cut-it-Out Project and an easy Mondrian Modern House project. A mini art history booklet gives more insight into Mondrian's life and art (and with rhyming text, its great to read aloud to younger kids)! Plus, instructions show everything you need to do, step by step!

Suggested Materials:

  • For Notecards and Carrier Envelope: printed templates (see below), No. 2 pencil and eraser for sketching, paper, colored pencils ( OR markers), colored card stock or construction paper in red, yellow or blue.
  • As an optional step, you can grab some yarn in one of the primary colors, glue stick and hole punch to make a handle for the carrier envelope.
  • For Cut-it-Out: printed template, scissors, colored pencils, glue
  • For Mondrian Modern House: paper, any kind, no. 2 pencil, eraser, ruler and paints (watercolor OR craft acrylics, AND brushes, OR substitute markers)
